St. Mary's Hall is a residence for many Jesuits affiliated with Boston College.
A Jesuit residence is a facility used to house members of the Society of Jesus. These facilities may be as small as an apartment housing a few Jesuits to as large as a dormitory style facility with space for over 100 Jesuits. There are Jesuit residences located all over the world and Jesuits are encouraged to live in community with their fellow Jesuits. It is customary for the Society of Jesus to own the residences, even if all of the surrounding property is on a Jesuit college campus is owned by the university. For example, St. Mary's Hall at Boston College is owned by the Jesuits, while the surrounding grounds and builds are owned by Boston College, an lay-governed private university that is independent of the Society of Jesus.
