Creighton University is a Jesuit university located in the United States of America in Omaha, Nebraska. The university was founded as Creighton College in 1878 through a gift from Mary Lucretia Creighton who stipulated in her will that a school be established in memory of her husband, prominent Omaha businessman Edward Creighton. Sitting on a 108-acre campus just north of Omaha's downtown business district. The University currently enrolls about 3,800 undergraduate students and 3,000 professional and graduate students. The university's enrollment is about 46 percent male and 54 percent female. About 56 percent of the students are from outside of Nebraska. Of the student body, 83 percent is Caucasian, 7 percent is Asian, 3 percent is African-American, 3 percent is Hispanic/Latino, and 1 percent is American Indian. Out of the school's freshman class, 60 percent graduate in 4 years, and 70 percent graduate in 6 years.
Creighton is one of 28 member institutions of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities. The current president is Father John P. Schlegel, S.J. who has a doctorate from Oxford University in international relations. Roc O'Connor, S.J. is the Rector of the Jesuit Community at Creighton.

Creighton is a nationally known university, ranking 1st in the 2007 US News and World Report category of top Master's Degree programs among Midwestern universities. It has consistently ranked highly in the past and frequently sends students to graduate programs at Ivy League Institutions. Creighton is known as a solid natural science school because of its Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Nursing. Moreover, the entire College of Arts and Sciences, the oldest and largest school on campus, has been highly acclaimed and noted nationally and internationally for academic integrity, academic excellence, and scholarly publications from faculty members.
Nearly 900 students are enrolled in the College of Business Administration, about 675 undergraduates and 165 graduate students. Thirty-three full-time faculty members provide instruction in accounting, economics, finance, information systems & technology, entrepreneurship, and marketing.
Creighton University is set to open the new Harper Center in the fall of 2008. The Harper Center will include an alumni sports cafe, admissions offices, academic support services, financial aid and more. It is a 214,000 square foot building that is currently under construction.
Creighton is not only known nationally for its academics, it also has a very rich tradition in athletics. Known as the Bluejays, Creighton participates in the Missouri Valley Athletic Conference. The Creighton men's basketball games at the Qwest Center have become a hot spot in Omaha as the Bluejays are averaging over 15,000 fans a game so far in the 2007-2008 season. Also, Morrison Stadium which is home to the men's and women's soccer teams has been dubbed one of the top collegiate soccer stadiums in the country.
